The Amazing Equality House

We were incredibly lucky to be able to visit the Equality House today. Located in Topeka, Kansas, just off interstate 70, it is a worthy stop. I really love bright colors, and I especially love rainbows. I have loved them since the 80’s when I totally rocked some nifty rainbow suspenders like Mork from Ork!

But one of the things I love most about this house, is that it’s situated across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church. Or the Westboro Bigots, as I call them. If you don’t know, they are the virulently homophobic, anti-semitic, idiots who protest soldiers funerals, among other hateful protests.  I love it that the founder of Planting Peace bought this house across the street from the church and painted it with rainbow colors as a tribute to the gay pride flag!

The wonderful non-profit, Planting Peace, also bought the house next door and painted it the colors of the transgender flag.

Whether you like rainbows or not, this is a beautiful, brave, peaceful way to support equality, love, and freedom. We were incredibly moved by the amazing  message they are sending.

You are invited to walk onto the property to take pictures or enjoy some veggies from the community garden. They also have a donation box that we were proud to contribute to, in order to help support the house and Planting Peace.

We had our trailer attached, so it was a little crazy. But, we were able to navigate the streets and pull up in front for a brief stop.

Don’t you think our trailer would look great painted in rainbow colors???

You can visit the Equality House at 1200 SW Orleans St, Topeka, Kansas.
